OVERVIEW

Michael Utvich is a recognized expert in computer media, interactive content development, and electronic publishing. A consultant in interactive media development for entertainment and information applications, Michael is the author of six books on computer media, a regular article contributor to respected trade and general interest computer publications and a frequent speaker on new content and media forms available through new media technologies.

INTERACTIVE MULTIMEDIA
CONSULTANT/DEVELOPER

Michael is has acted as consultant on developing interactive and entertainment media, including Nissan/Chiat-Day for the Time-Warner Interactive TV project, Legacy Entertainment, Nissan Motors, American Film Institute, Xerox, JDPower. In addition, Michael is the instructor for the Paramount/USC Interactive Storytelling Fellowship at USC's School of Cinema and Television, and has taught a full course in multimedia writing for the American Film Institute. Michael has also appeared as moderator and panelist for numerous multimedia trade events including Digital World, Showbiz Expo, Digital Hollywood, and Home Media Expo. An invited guest moderator at Milia 96 in Cannes, Michael created and is moderating an international study group on interactive fiction via the Internet begun at Milia. Participants in the InterFiction group include individuals from the U.S, U.K. Australia, Ireland, South Africa, Austria, France, Germany, and Portugal.

A member of the Writer's Guild of America, west since 1977, Michael has been instrumental in developing new media programs and informational events of interest to the Hollywood creative community. In addition to developing and appearing in traditional meetings and events, Michael was invited to serve as Moderator of the Interactive Writing Forum on the PAGE BBS, an exclusive electronic bulletin board serving proven writing and other creative professionals in the entertainment and new media industries.

Michael has served as writer, information designer, and in development capacities for a variety of interactive multimedia projects dating to the early 1980's, including writing and design of the original Builder's Emporium "Pop Larsen" interactive kiosk, and the groundbreaking "Managing Change" program developed for IBM on interactive laserdisc in 1987. In partnership with CE3, Inc. Michael developed the JDPowerGuide to Automobiles, an interactive entertainment product that involves the user on many levels in the world of cars, driving, and automotive lore.

AUTHOR

Michael has authored six books on high technology themes, focused in the area of electronic publishing, interactive content, and computer-based tools for storytelling and communication. His most recent book, The Guerrilla Guide to High Tech Tradeshows, is a satirical look at high tech culture, and is being developed as a multi-publishing project, with its own Web site, comic strip, and character-based online environment in development. Michael's current project in development is "Designing For Interactive Media" a guidebook on the principles, models, scripting styles and environment design for online and CD-ROM projects. It is slated for publication at the end of this year.

SPEAKER

An acknowledged technology industry expert, Michael has appeared as a featured speaker in multimedia and computer industry venues across the country. Michael's notable presentations include an appearance as feastured speaker to the Houston Area League of PC Users (HAL-PC), the largest computer user group in the nation, Digital World, New Media Expo, the Windows/OS2 Conference, FOSE, Federal Computer Conference, West. Michael has also appeared as a guest on the PBS television series, Computer Chronicles and has been interviewed several times on interactive/multimedia topics for CNN's "Hollywood Minute"segment.

Recent speaking engagements include an appearance as the moderator of "Secrets of the Next Wave", the culminating supersession of Comdex Fall 1995 in Las Vegas, and as moderator/panelist at the Maui Writer's Conference in August 1995. In February 1996, Michael was invited by The Milia 1996 Conference in Cannes, France to serve as the moderator of the lead panel of the conference and to appear on the WGA-sponsored "Interactive Fiction" panel. Based on the strong response from these events, Michael created and is moderating an international InterFiction study group on the Internet composed of international media producers who attended the Milia 96 event.
